The Civil Protection Shelter Coalition is working: seven projects for the construction and modernisation of shelters have been approved
In his Telegram channel, the Minister of Interior of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, announced the first practical results within the framework of the International Coalition of Civil Protection Shelters.
"The International Coalition for Civilian Protection Shelters is working. We have the first practical results: seven projects for the construction and modernisation of shelters have been approved. New protective structures will appear in Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Odesa, and Sumy regions that the enemy shells practically on a daily basis. Four of the shelters are for medical facilities and three are for kindergartens," wrote Ihor Klymenko.
The Minister emphasised that the selection of projects was carried out in collaboration with the communities. The approach was reviewed to prioritise regions close to the front line, where the need for security infrastructure is most acute.
'This is just the beginning of systematic work. In February, the Coalition will continue to consider new projects submitted by state and local government bodies. Our task is to scale up this initiative so that every settlement has enough modern and reliable shelters,” said the Head of the Ministry of Interior.
Funding for construction is provided through the EU's Ukraine Facility programme, and the practical implementation will be overseen by the Lithuanian Central Project Management Agency (CPMA) and the Belgian Enabel agency.
'Thank you to our partners for their substantial support and resolute stance. The Shelter Coalition is an example of how, through joint efforts, we strengthen the protection of people and the resilience of communities. In the face of daily threats, the security system is the key to providing concrete solutions. We are working to ensure that each of these solutions provides real protection for people," said Ihor Klymenko.
